We are writing to you today with an urgent appeal for donations for an important project that we want to carry out in Vietnam. We want to build 10 wells for water supply for Vietnamese minorities in remote rural areas. With this we want to improve the lives and health of thousands of people suffering from water scarcity and pollution.

Why is the supply of groundwater so important in Vietnam? Vietnam is one of the countries most affected by climate change. Rising temperatures, frequent droughts and floods, and rising sea levels are threatening freshwater availability and quality. The situation is particularly bad in rural areas, where many people have no access to clean drinking water.

Surface water is often more heavily contaminated with dioxins than groundwater. Dioxin is a highly toxic substance released during the Vietnam War through the use of defoliants such as Agent Orange. Dioxin can cause cancer, birth defects, immune deficiency and other serious diseases. It accumulates in the soil, in plants and in animals and thus enters the food chain. The surface water that many people use for drinking, cooking and washing is also often contaminated with dioxin.

With our well project we want to create a safe and sustainable alternative to surface water. We want to drill 10 wells that will pump groundwater from a depth of at least 50 meters. The groundwater is usually less dioxin-contaminated than the surface water because it is cleaned by natural filters such as sand and rock. The wells are to be equipped with solar pumps that work independently of the power grid. We also want to distribute water filters and containers to ensure the hygienic storage and use of the water.

In order to make this project a reality, we need your help. We need a total of 250,000 euros for the planning, construction and maintenance of the wells and for training the local population in how to use the water. Every euro counts and can make a difference. For example, with a donation of 10 euros you can finance a water filter, with a donation of 100 euros you can pay for part of a well.
